Illinois Native Bees

There are around 500 species of native bees in Illinois ranging from small, metallic sweat bees to large, fluffy bumble bees. Kindergarten through 8th grade educators will investigate native bee identification and life histories, their interactions with native plants, and the challenges they face. Educators will take a walk to observe native bees and learn about initiatives at the Chicago Botanic Garden in native bee and pollinator conservation, including Rethinking Lawns and Pollinators Living in Urban Gardens, and how to create pollinator friendly spaces in your Neighborhood. Supplemental classroom resources will be provided. Professional Development Hours are available. Sponsored by the IDNR, this workshop is part of the ENTICE (Environment and Nature Training Institute for Conservation Education) program.
